The vehicle for forgiveness for intentional sin is Jesus Christ Himself.
As a Christian, there are many ways that sin can be rid from the body.
1. The baptism of Jesus Christ removes the control of sin from our body. Once a faithful believer goes under the baptismal waters to their grave, original sin loses its power, and leaves. Original sin, dating back to Adam, only dwells in living people. Once they die, original sin loses its hold. It's that way for everybody alive...when they go to their grave, original sin no longer has control.
Fortunately for Christians, the vehicle for the removal of original sin is going to our grave through baptism, in full faith that Jesus Christ died for our sins, and that his crucifixion and shed blood was sacrificed so we might be forgiven of our original sins. When we are confident of both his sacrifice through his shed blood on Calvary, and his glorious Resurrection, and we go to our baptismal grave as a result, when we come out of the waters of baptism, we are Resurrected and new.
At that very moment, a newly baptized Christian is righteous and sin free because of the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made to cover the sins and release their insipid control from the body.
2. I wish that we could say that it is only the original sin of Adam that causes most of us good Christians to sin, but it is not. Sometimes we sin, especially when we are new Christians, without any idea that it is a sin in the first place. It takes time and learning to understand the great walk in the path of Jesus Christ. Though our heart is clean and willing, we sometimes stumble without seeing the rock in our path. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is given by Jesus Christ for just this purpose.
He knew that his followers would be able to walk that path with surety in his presence. He also knew that the moment he ascended to sit at the right hand of His Father, and left the presence of his disciples, that they would have difficulty walking the path toward him. That is why he sent the Holy Ghost to dwell with Christians and in Christians, to guide them along that path. He did not want the Christians to stumble over those unseen rocks and he did not want them to be alone.
So the Christian that receives the Holy Ghost baptism has His Spirit inside, and is guided on that path toward Jesus Christ, and stumbles rarely. When those stumbles of sin occur unknowingly to the Christian, the Holy Ghost burns the sin up immediately. This protects the Christian from being burdened by the dirtiness of sin, and leaving the path of righteousness inadvertently. It is a built in in-dwelling that Christ gave to each of us for our protection.
3. Sometimes we sin in spite of ourselves. Sometimes we sin because of our past practices. Sometimes we sin when it's not even our fault as we do things we learned from our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents that has been passed down over the generations without examination for guilt.
Regardless of the reason of sin, whether it is from bloodguiltiness, lust, weakness, stupidity, habit, or anger we still are committing sin. If we say we do not sin, then we are only fooling ourselves, and God is not with us.
The LORD GOD has given Jesus Christ the authority to forgive sin on earth. It is through this vehicle of authority, that Jesus Christ gives forgiveness for sin through our intentional sins.
The LORD GOD recognizes all that come through Jesus Christ, and forgives those who Jesus Christ represents as forgiven to Him.
So, it's a three path approach to forgiveness...
1. Jesus Christ died for us so we could be crucified with him, covered in his blood of sacrifice, and resurrected into a new life where the hold of sin is no longer upon us.
2. Jesus Christ sent the Holy Ghost to guide us and protect us from unintentional sin.
3. Jesus Christ was given the authority to forgive so when we are stupid we still have way of returning to righteousness.
As a young Christian, we learn that faith in Jesus Christ brings forgiveness of our sin, and that is exactly right! All it takes is faith in him, and our sins are forgiven. But as we mature and study His Word, we learn the depths, the vehicles, the authority and the way this forgiveness is given.
So to answer your question in the depth that I believe you have asked it...
I would tell a new Christian that faith in Jesus Christ brings forgiveness of sin.
I would tell a maturing Christian a little bit more of the details and guide them through his Word to understand how great his love for us that he implemented three steps toward maintaining our forward and solid walk toward righteousness.
I would be happy to direct Scripture references to any of the things I have written to you today, or to clear up any confusion you might have.
Thank you for writing with such deep questions. It please me that there is someone who cares enough to ask, and I am certain that it pleases Jesus much more!
